College Help?

Tue Feb 17, 2009, 1:09 PM
EDIT (11/17/09): This was a while ago. I have a better idea of what I'm going to do now. UMass Amherst (English Major) is my safety school and I'm thinking of applying to Columbia Chicago (Fiction Writing Major). So if you know of any good schools with a creative writing kind of major, that would be fantastic.

---

So I'm totally clueless about college and have been for quite some time. I know that I want to go to an art-based college, so what better community to ask than dA?

I don't care how you've found this journal entry. Whether you're a totally random person or a close friend, pleeease comment this with whatever bit of advice you can give.

So I don't know what I want to do. No clue whatsoever. Lately I've been thinking about scuplting for stopmotion films and stuff like that. (Coraline changed my whole perception of art and the industry, I swear.) But I'm constantly changing my mind. For a while, I wanted to do acting, but that's...tricky. And I'm obviously into writing, but I don't think I would enjoy it as a career. And I've considered graphic design, but I just don't know...

So you see, I'm completely confused. I'm pretty sure that, unless I have some sort of huge crazy epiphany, I want to spend a year taking a bunch of different classes at a general art school and then decide from there what it is I want to do and then maybe transfer to a more specialized school. (Hello run-on sentence!)

Here's what I'm looking for...
+An art school with a wide variety of subjects.
+Preferably a smallish college. Not so tiny that I'll know everybody within a few months, but small enough that I'll get to know my professors on a personal level.
+I have no preference for location, but I'd like to have a good amount of culture in the area.

Please tell me...
+If you know of any good art schools I should look into (along with any information or opinions you may want to add--basically, brag about your school).
+ If you can think of any interesting career paths that I may have never considered (along with any information about how to achieve such a goal).
+Anything else that you may think would be helpful based on this post or whatever else you know about me.

THANK YOU!

Heya! =D

I've been kind of curious and now's a good time as any to ask. What exactly is the significance of "Azilda"?

Well, Azilda is my middle name. And it was my great great grandma's name, which she was a really good person apparently; I was named after her. She died a year before I was born.

Oh really? That's such a cool name. I've never heard it before. I thought it was like...a character's name or just some random letters that turned out to make a really pretty word. I wish I had a super-awesome middle name, haha.

(Took me forever to reply to this, haha. Oh well)

Hah, there's also a name called Ezilda which sounds really close to Azilda and I discovered that on the grave of a relative yesterday actually. So, that may be a choice for a kid's name or something, I dunno yet, since I don't plan on having kids for awhile. (oops rambling.)

What's your middle name? Lol. I'm curious now.
